A small compartment in the outside wall of many homes built before 1955 with an outside and an inside door. The Milkman would open the outside door, pick up the empty bottles and then place the occupant’s milk order in the chute. Later, the occupant would take in the milk order through the inside door and put their empty bolltes inside the chute. Home buyers who have never lived in a home with a milk chute and who are younger often ask there realtor, “What is that thing for?”
