A heating and/or cooling system that pumps heat to or from the outdoor air. During cooling the outdoor unit transfers heat to the outdoor air, while the indoor unit removes heat from the conditioned space. During heating a reversing value changes the flow of the refrigerant making the system operate essentially in reverse – the outdoor unit takes heat from the air outside and the indoor unit delivers that heat to the conditioned space.
