The indoor coil of a central air conditioning system. It is normally enclosed in the plenum above a forced air furnace or an air handling unit. Refrigerant lines connect it to the outdoor condensing unit. Liquid refrigerant enters the warm evaporator coil where it evaporates into a gas. As the refrigerant evaporates it cools the coil. When the furnace blows air across the coils it is cooled and delivered throughout the home. Also: Condensing Unit
