American Four Square

Most homes of this style were built from the late 19th century until about 1930. Their most distinguishing features are four (roughly) square sides, 2-1/2 stories with four room floor plans and a hip roof with large dormers on all sides. Typically a Four Square includes a full width front porch also. Sears and Roebuck sold thousands of “mail order” versions of this popular utilitarian home style. People even today still refer to this as a “Sears home”. You don’t have to look for long to spot one.
