Outside of Door County you’ll find no place on Wisconsin’s Lake Michigan shores with more charming maritime character than in Port Washington. The coal ships, the coal bridge and coal dock are all gone now. Today it’s a park; the most recent addition to Port’s popular harbor and marina. Charter fishing has replaced the old commercial fishing and boating and “hanging out down by the lake” is a great way to spend an afternoon. Add the bluffs, parks, broad sand beaches, a quaint downtown with a picture post card gothic cathedral and light house high on top the hill above and it easy to understand why people like to call Port “home”.
Neighborhoods range from small old town streets with 100+ year old homes to those with new suburban appeal. Homes are very affordable here. Located just a bit outside the metro Milwaukee area, Port Washington residents still enjoy reasonable commute times to the city.
