It wasn’t all that many years ago that Oak Creek, for many people, was a place with ‘little’ character and a ‘big’ power plant. Today the power plant is a lot bigger and although you won’t find any small town charm, you will find new pleasant safe neighborhoods that have grown up in several areas. It’s hard to find a home built before 1955. It is one of Milwaukee County’s fastest growing communities; adding over 20% to its population base since 2000.
Today you’ll also find an extensive and growing retail shopping district that is well on its way to becoming one of the region’s largest. It runs mostly along south Howell Avenue and centers on the intersection of Howell and Drexel. Part of Oak Creek’s appeal is that it still has a rural character in many areas. Oak Creek homes are generally within reach of 1st or 2nd time home buyers. For those looking for premium living, it’s more affordable here, but you will find the selection somewhat limited.
