Covering 36 square miles, Franklin is the largest community within Milwaukee County (except for the City of Milwaukee). Like several other suburbs of Milwaukee, the impetus to incorporate Franklin as a city was born out of fear of annexation by the City of Milwaukee. As a result the City of Franklin was incorporated in 1956. Located in the southwest corner of Milwaukee County, today Franklin is still about 1/3rd rural.
The majority of homes here were built after 1960. With a few exceptions, the lowest home prices are at the eastern edge of this community. As you drive west, larger newer homes are common. About 20% of Franklin houses are priced within range of many first time home buyers. But in its newer areas at the other end of the price spectrum, you’ll find the top 20% priced north of $350K.
